Debra Messing was born in Brooklyn, New York City. (15 August 1968) Her parents are Jewish American. Her Father is Brian Messing and he was a sales executive for a jewelry manufacturer. And her mother Sandra Simons worked as a professional singer, banker, travel and real estate agent. And she has an older brother named Brett.

Debra Messing moved to east Greenwich (a quiet town outside Rhode Island, Providence) with her family when she was three years old. She acted and sang in high school years. She acted in the musicals “Annie” and “Fiddler On the Roof” fort he starring roles. And she took lessons for dancing, acting and singing in these years. In 1986, she was Rhode Island's Junior Miss and competed in Mobile, Alabama in the America's Junior Miss scholarship program. Her family always encouraged her but they also wanted her to take a liberal arts education. And she attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She also studied thater at London based British European Studio Group program. And this increased her desire to act.

In 1990, after graduating summa cum laude from Brandeis with a bachelor's degree in theater arts, Messing gained admission to the elite Graduate Acting Program (which accepts only about 15 new students annually) at New York University, where she earned a master's degree in fine arts after three years.
